BBM introduced for iOS and Android
Written by josh on November 4th, 2013Last week BlackBerry Messenger launched for iOS and Android and was downloaded 5 million times in just eight hours.
BBM was the top free app in 35 countries on Google Play, BlackBerry said. It also was the Apple App Store leader in 107 countries.
Since the launch, BBM has seen 20 million new users. That brings its monthly total to 80 million users.
You might remember the BBM craze when the BlackBerry was the phone of choice, say 6-8 years ago. BBM is making a resurgence in the era of free VoIP.
BBM allows users to send and receive messages and photos for free. BBM also lets users video chat and make calls to other BBM users for free. Video and voice calling are only available to users with BlackBerry smartphones, however. This is an obvious drawback to the app.
BlackBerry has had trouble selling hardware, and the company has been seeking out alternatives to its business model – hence this BBM expansion. The company may look to expand BBM’s reach even further – making the app more similar to other powerful VoIP apps you know all about from reading freecallsto.com.
If you want to join the faze – download BBM for Android or iPhone.
