BBM continues push with free calls

BlackBerry Messenger, the struggling Canadian company, continues to add VoIP features. To stay competitive in today’s communications market with a seemingly unlimited number of free calling apps, BlackBerry is choosing wisely.

About two weeks ago, BBM announced that they will unveil BBM Voice in 2014 which allows BBM users to make free calls to one another. BBM Voice lets you make free calls to other BBM users anywhere in the world.

Another feature BBM that is launching is called Channels which is basically their version of group chats. Some Channels are based on topics of interest or hobbies, and there are some Channels from consumer brands.

Additionally, BBM says the sharing of photos, location and other personal multimedia will become “faster and easier.”

Finally, BBM is adding 100 new emoticons.

I wrote about BlackBerry Messenger last November, when they expanded to iPhone and Android. BBM was downloaded 20 million times in the course of its first week after expanding. If these users still have the app on their phone, they’ll now really be able to take advantage of it by making free calls to each other.

Don’t forget to “like” Freecallsto on Facebook.
