TextMe, a free SMS and voice calling app, has announced that users with the app will be able to make free phone calls on the 4th of July this year. This includes calling other mobile phones or landlines with no charges incurred.

One of the cool features of TextMe is that you’re assigned a mobile number for whatever device you’re using the app on. So, if you have an iPad, you can call people right from there using either wifi or a data plan. This lets any iOS device, even a wifi-only device, to be turned into one that can send/receive calls. You can also do video chat from these devices, which is really clear and cool. Who doesn’t love video chatting with someone halfway around the world?

TextMe recognizes the importance of Americans being able to call friends and loved ones on important days, particularly holidays. This offers those that are traveling outside of the US or people around the world to be in touch on this national holiday of independence.
